Blending Into Green With Christy

Featuring Christy Climenhaga
Meteorologist at CBC Saskatchewan

The story

Based in Regina, Christy is a meteorologist at CBC Saskatchewan. Although the weather has always fascinated her, she came into the weather world from an interesting direction. Christy got her private pilot’s licence when she was 19 and then received a science degree with a specialization in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Alberta.

Christy began her career among the polar bear licence plates of Yellowknife. She worked as a broadcast meteorologist for three years in the north before moving to the prairies with her husband Chris, dog Maggie and ridiculous cat Ace.

When she’s not at work, she loves to play recreational sports, sing and act in community theatre, and visit her close family in Edmonton.

Fun facts

She is deathly afraid of hedgehogs — and doesn’t know why.

Whenever she goes to a theatre to watch a horror movie, she always takes an aisle seat. Why? “So that I can duck out and catch the children’s movie next door for a few minutes if I get too scared.”

On a family trip to Kauai, Hawaii she once rented a plane and sang the Jurassic Park theme song as she flew over the waterfall from the movie.

She competed in slo-pitch nationals in Niagara Falls, Ontario. (Yes, that’s a thing. No, they didn’t win.)

One of her favourite things is Facetimeing her niece Ellie. Ellie blows kisses to the phone the whole time.

She secretly loves watching the Hallmark Christmas movies on Netflix: “I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them all multiple times.” Aaaaand it’s no longer a secret.
