Javier was born in Mexico City, is happily married, has a wonderful son and two beautiful dogs. His passion for photography prompted him move to Edmonton in August 2007 to pursue one of his dreams — to become a professional photographer.

After graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s Photographic Technology program in 2009, he opened his studio, Javier Salazar Photography. Javier has always been very committed to the idea of giving back. Amongst other things, he has been organizing Help Portrait Edmonton since 2009, offering those in need a professional portrait as a way of boosting their self-esteem. Since its beginning, Help Portrait Edmonton has given close to 2,000 free portraits to deserving people.

By day, Javier works for Junior Achievement Northern Alberta as Vice President of Programs. One of his passions is the JA Company Program, where he has the opportunity to inspire and empower high school students.

Javier was named one of Avenue Edmonton magagzine‘s Top 40 under 40 in 2011.
In 2012, he was listed as one of the “Top 50 Alumni of All Time” by NAIT.
He loves off-roading in his Jeep Wrangler, named Steve Rango.

This photo was taken near the end of the day at Help Portrait Edmonton 2013, where professional photographers, make up artists and other voluteers donated their day to deliver 563 family and portraits to under-privileged people. (Editor’s note: I’m sure Javier had a long sleep after this day.)
