Daniel was born and raised in a small town in northern Ontario where the main industry was mining. The mines used large quantities of sulphur during the extraction of nickel, ore and copper. That made vegetation a challenge in the city. Consequently, there were few trees and most of the land was black. As the mines started to shut down because of hard economic times, Sudbury sprouted with greenery and he now considers it to be one of the nicest cities in Ontario.<\/p>\n

He was raised in a French Catholic family. His mother was one of 20 children and my father one of 15. In fact, he has so many cousins that it’s impossible to know all of them!<\/p>\n

In his words:<\/p>\n

My parents raised me to keep things to myself, to not get involved in other people\u2019s business, to not to go out of my way to help others out, do what you can but within reason.<\/p>\n

But in 2014, I donated a kidney to someone I hardly knew. In that same year, I let someone I knew very little move in with me because he was down on his luck. It has flourished into one of the best friendships I\u2019ve had. For some unknown reason, I came to believe that everyone should give something of themselves without asking for anything in return. Karma will see that it comes back to me.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know how I came to be this way seeing as I was a victim of constant bullying during my childhood because of my sexuality. Things got pretty bad for me when I was a teen but here I am and I plan on giving more of myself to others.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”Row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_divider admin_label=”Divider” color=”#eaeaea” show_divider=”on” divider_style=”solid” divider_position=”top” hide_on_mobile=”on” height=”2″]\n[\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text admin_label=”Fun Facts Header” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”center” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” text_font=”|on|||” text_font_size=”32″]\n

He used to love roller coasters — the higher the better! The number 666 was all around him for a brief period of life — in phone numbers, addresses, distances. She was found orphaned at a very young age, with no other elephants around. Unfortunately at the time there was no facility in Sri Lanka that had the resources to be able to care for her. It was through the Colombo Zoo that the Edmonton Valley Zoo<\/a> became aware that Lucy needed a home.\r\n\r\nLucy arrived at the Edmonton Valley Zoo on May 19, 1977. When Lucy arrived at the Edmonton Valley Zoo her age was not known. By looking at how developed she was it was estimated that she was about two years old. Since we have no record of her birth date, we celebrate her birthday on Canada Day. On July 1st, 2013 Lucy celebrated her 38th birthday!\r\n\u00a0\r\n[box]At any given time, Lucy's weight fluctuates between 8400-8500 lbs.<\/strong>[\/box]\r\n\r\n[box]Some of Lucy's favorite activities are painting, hide and seek and playing soccer.<\/strong>[\/box]\r\n\r\n[box]Lucy's artwork is available for sale at http:\/\/buildingourzoo.com\/support-the-zoo\/elephant-art\/<\/a>.<\/strong>[\/box]\r\n\r\n[box]To prevent foot infection, Lucy\u2019s zookeepers inspect her feet regularly for foreign objects and they are conditioned twice a day with apple cider vinegar (for disinfecting) and epsom salts (for nourishment).<\/strong>[\/box]\r\n\r\n[box]Lucy was very, VERY interested in Miguelito's Little Green Car.
