One day my \u201cgreen car” will have a rooftop vegetable garden. As we wait for automotive technology to catch up, I write about the importance and place of eating, food preparation, and agriculture in our lives. I\u2019m the author of the 2012 book Food and the City: Urban Agriculture and the New Food Revolution<\/strong> and my next book, Food Artisans of the Okanagan<\/strong>, will be published spring 2016.

<\/div>\nI asked Leroy to photograph me with his globe-trotting Little Green Car in Urban Eden<\/a>, one of my hometown\u2019s lovely community gardens. I am a keen amateur gardener and I love to spend time wandering through the city\u2019s productive landscapes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jennifer thought she’d be a world-traveler, but she lives just a few blocks away from where she was born, which is also the same neighbourhood in which one of her grandmothers grew up. She remarks, “maybe I\u2019m not as adventurous as I could be.”<\/strong><\/div><\/div>\n

Her two huskies used to raid the garden. They especially loved buttercup squash and raspberries.<\/strong><\/div><\/div>\n

She’s the President of the Board of LitFest: Edmonton\u2019s Nonfiction Festival<\/a>. Factoid: LitFest is Canada\u2019s only nonfiction festival and one of only three in the world.<\/strong><\/div><\/div>\n
