Sporting Sympathy Injuries With Fish<\/strong> Fish is an award-winning journalist, writer, illustrator and filmmaker based in Edmonton. He\u2019s shot and directed numerous videos for bands including Twin Fangs<\/a>, The Wet Secrets<\/a> and two for Corb Lund<\/a> \u2013 including the lead-off video Gettin\u2019 Down on the Mountain<\/a> for the country singer\u2019s number-one-in-Canada album, Cabin Fever<\/a>. He also photographed the album\u2019s imagery. Working with director Trevor Anderson, Fish filmed short doc The High Level Bridge<\/a> on a $100 Sony webcam – this went on to Sundance Film Festival<\/a>, Cannes International Film Festival<\/a>, the Brooklyn Rooftop Film Fest<\/a>, SXSW<\/a>, Dawson International Short Film Festival<\/a> and won an honorable mention at AFI Fest<\/a> in Hollywood. Werner Herzog called it, \u201cVery accomplished filmmaking,\u201d while Matt Groening said of it, \u201cIt\u2019s great!\u201d<\/p>\n Fish also sang, danced, shot C-cam and did set photography on Anderson\u2019s short musical The Man That Got Away, which won DAAD award and residency at Berlinale. The film was in competition at Vladisvostok IFF where Griwkowsky represented it.<\/p>\n In response to the current federal government\u2019s shelving of the Portrait Gallery of Canada<\/a>, Fish conceived the National Portrait Gallery Project, a show reaching across the country, featuring the likes of Penny Buckner, Terrance Houle and Douglas Coupland. Griwkowsky is part of Edmonton art collective We Are the Golden West<\/a>, which has created street exhibitions, officially shown as a group, and dressed as vikings at \u201cart\u2019s birthday\u201d in a swimming pool, floating on a boat of taped-together balloons inflated with their own lungs. Their three-day Golden West Music Fest is Aug. 2-4 2013, near Ardmore, AB.<\/p>\n Winner of this year\u2019s Mayor\u2019s Celebration of the Arts award for arts promotion and one of Avenue\u2019s Top 40 Under 40, his photos have appeared in publications around the world, initially thanks to portraits of musicians Lund and Richard Buckner. A DJ, paid cartoonist under the name Bill Benson and wedding photographer, Fish is the art critic for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Edmonton Journal<\/a>. When none of that is happening, he happily builds grain bins on the Alberta prairies. He\u2019s been doing street art for 20 years and was, with an Edmonton graf kid named Fish, voted the second-best street artist in Vue magazine\u2019s<\/a> 2012 annual poll. He joined Montreal\u2019s En Masse during their commission in downtown Edmonton within the sights of city hall and the Art Gallery of Alberta, where in 2011 he was the first guest artistic director of their seasonal Refinery parties and blew up giant stereoscopic images of his friends naked.<\/p>\n Griwkowsky was writer\/illustrator in residence at Latitude 53, a reporter for the Edmonton Sun for 14 years and for SEE Magazine almost as long, and now draws at Vue Weekly. He\u2019s also written and shot for the Toronto Star, Exclaim!, Rue Morgue and Penguin Eggs and was a regular panellist on Alberta Prime Time\u2019s culture segment. <\/p>\n Though he\u2019s swell behind the wheel, he rarely drives, regardless of a car\u2019s colour.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
